The importance of scientific publications for reporting
Preparing scientific publications is an important part of researchers’ work, especially in the context of submitting reports. Articles published in reputable journals are often one of the effective indicators of a researcher’s activity and help disseminate the results of their research. Scientific publications also strengthen a researcher’s academic portfolio and may be taken into account during further attestation.
Publication activity is taken into account at different stages of an academic career, in particular:
- When participating in state scientific and grant projects. Usually, a report is submitted during the implementation of the project or after its completion. At the same time, it is important to take into account the requirements of a specific organisation, since the number and level of publications may differ.
- For obtaining the academic degree of Doctor of Sciences. According to information from the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Republic of Armenia (HESC), it is important to have at least twenty published scientific articles in one’s professional portfolio. It should also be taken into account that at least five of these works must be published in journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus.
- For obtaining the academic degree of PhD. According to HESC, the minimum number of publications is six articles, two of which must be without co-authors. Another option is also provided – the presence of three scientific articles, among which at least one must be published in a WoS or Scopus journal, and at least one must be single-authored.
- When preparing reports for a higher education institution. Planning scientific publications may be important for the reporting of a department, faculty, research centre, or the entire educational institution. This helps confirm the scientific activity of the university and its teaching staff.
It is worth noting that the number of articles and the requirements for them may differ depending on the specific institution, organisation, or scientific programme.
Stages of preparing a scientific publication
Preparing scientific works requires significant effort, so we recommend starting in advance and considering the main stages of this process:
- Defining the purpose and topic of the publication. First of all, it is important to decide on the direction of your research. The work must be relevant and contain scientific novelty.
- Choosing a quality journal. This stage is one of the most important, as the further dissemination of your work in the scientific community depends on it. To make the choice of publication effective, it is worth checking its indexing, key scientometric indicators, as well as the correspondence of the journal’s specialisation to the topic of your research.
- Preparing the manuscript. When writing and formatting the article, it is worth taking into account the requirements of the selected journal, the quality of academic translation, the uniqueness of the text, and so on. Failure to comply with these aspects may result in the work being returned for revision or rejected.

- Final revisions. After the scientific article has been reviewed by reviewers, the work must be corrected in accordance with all recommendations. If a positive assessment is received, the work is accepted for publication.
